Vulnerability
February 6, 2013Materials: Steel Dimensions: 10 1/2 feet X 13 feet X 13 feet
After making a life-sized hawk, bear and lion, I decided to go really BIG. I was curious about whether I could accomplish something on a grand scale. And the answer is…absolutely! I spent a few weeks using my grade school algebra to figure out the dimensions, visiting the giraffes in the Baltimore Zoo, buying a whole bunch of steel and a really good ladder, then I started welding. Of course, as is often the case, I started down the wrong path to begin with (see Hungry) but eventually I had an entire giraffe. I have to say, it’s pretty darned gratifying to see people’s reaction when they realize I made it. The answer to the most often asked question is…it took me a year to make it.
After living in Quiet Waters Park in Annapolis, MD for six years, “Vulnerability” has come home to live on our farm. These pictures are of the installation in Annapolis.
