MIXED MEDIA 2005-2023

I began welding in 2003. Once I had established a decent ability to weld steel, I started adding in fiber, paper, wood and rust. And while I had no interest in working with polymer clay full time again, I couldn’t resist seeing what it could do if I incorporated it into the metalwork.

FIBER WEAVINGS ON STEEL

Steel gave a me a unique ability to control the shape of a basket form as well as give it the strength to hold up during the weaving process. Using steel rods, I welded the skeleton of the form together and then wove them using brightly colored yarns. Ultimately, my goal was to create intriguing shapes.

STEEL, PAPER, POLYMER CLAY, WOOD, RUST

Welding steel leads to a LOT of steel dust in the studio. I began to play with it to see what it could do on paper. I was super intrigued with how it worked with a particular Japanese rice paper. From then on it started to show up in many of my creations in various forms.
